Discrimination Laws Applicable to Missouri
Claims of employment discrimination are based upon a number of state, federal and possibly local laws. The State of Missouri has adopted the Missouri Human Rights Act which provides that it is discriminatory to not hire, fire or otherwise discriminate against an employee because of such individual's race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ancestry, age or disability or retaliate against an employee for asserting particular legal rights. Federal law addresses employment discrimination and wrongful termination through such Acts as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Some of these laws require that the employer have a certain total number of employees and there are different statutes of limitations in which a claim must be filed for a claim to be actionable.

Allegations of discrimination based upon race, color, national origin, gender, age, religion, as well as issues of retaliation are highly volatile, and are the subject of a tremendous amount of litigation.
