Unpaid Post and Preliminary Work Time - Recent Amazon Wage and Hour Claims

Missouri Wage and Hour Attorneys

Wage and hour violation lawsuits have been recently filed against Amazon based on a practice of requiring warehouse employees to undergo extensive security scanning off the clock prior to the start of work. Standing in line to pass through metal detectors and wand screening lengthens the work day for employees uncompensated.

These security protocols appear to be compensable work time under the "donning and doffing" principal. Most time spent preparing for work and leaving the workplace is compensable work time. For example, the failure to pay employees for the time it takes to put on or take off uniforms, equipment or safety devises at the beginning or end of a work shift often constitutes a violation of the FLSA. Further, the requirement that an employee get to work early or stay late to complete work is often considered a wage and hour violation.

The Missouri Wage and Hour Law (MWHL) provides Missouri workers with wage and hour rights similar to those contained within the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Our firm's established wage and hour practice is experienced in handling complex and large-scale class or collective action litigation involving both the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Missouri Wage and Hour Law. We can assist you in determining whether you are being properly compensated for all time worked and whether you might have a claim to recover your unpaid wages.\
